The community is invited to check out the creativity of local artists of all ages who submitted artwork for the 4th Annual Creek Week Art Contest. The theme this year is “Once Upon a Creek: Bringing the Community Together with Art.” The artwork is on display NOW at the Goleta Community Center (GCC) through October 10 during regular hours (Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). You are also encouraged to attend the Creek Week Art Contest Reception on Thursday, September 25 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the GCC (5679 Hollister Avenue) where the winning artwork will be revealed. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
"We can’t wait for you to see the 40 pieces of art on display at the Goleta Community Center, all submitted by local artists. It is so exciting to see for yourself the talent and creativity that exists right here in Goleta," said Library Assistant and Creek Week Art Coordinator Sharon Nigh.
The artists will be recognized for their work at the reception. Mayor Paula Perotte and guest judge Goleta Valley Art Association President Elizabeth Flanagan will have selected a handful of winners based on relevance to the theme, overall appearance, and originality, and the winning announcements will be made that evening.
Attendees at the reception will also hear about the importance of Creek Week and our local waterways from Dan Rowell, the City of Goleta’s Environmental Services Project Manager. Be sure to visit the Santa Barbara Urban Creeks Collective’s information table to pick up an original activity guide, as well.
The Creek Week Art Contest Show and Reception are brought to you by the City of Goleta’s Environmental Services, Library, and Parks and Recreation Divisions, and the Santa Barbara Urban Creeks Collective.
Happy Creek Week and thanks to everyone who submitted artwork for the contest!
